First few days in NY

June 26, 2009

It’s been a few days since my move out here, three to be exact, and things have been fun and funny as ever. My first actual full day I did some work on my portfolio, went for a run, took a bunch of photos outside, went to a book reading of buzz aldrin, and relaxed.

The next day I had an interview on wall street which I was excited/nervous about. I was even so nervous about the interview itself, I was more nervous about getting to the interview. I am staying at my cousin’s house in Long Island, so I had to take the train by  myself and then get on the correct subway to my last stop. Those are both things I had never done before so I was nervous I would get lost, but I have to say I didn’t get lost and I was even early to my interview.

On my way back home on the train I sat with these 3 other ladies plus a baby. Somehow on the hour long ride I was asked to explain to the youngest girl who could have been anywhere from 13-20, what menopause is! I had no idea what to say. Also, if you don’t know me I don’t look my age. I’m 24 but I look 19 or 20, so I found it weird that the mom couldn’t tell her own daughter about menopause, it seemed more appropriate for a stranger to do so.

Today!!

Newsday is here today to photograph my little cousin’s room and to interview my cousin and I. It’s so cool knowing that something so small like painting my little cousin’s room can turn into something like a two page spread in a paper in NY.

Sigh, alright here are some nice pictures from my run the other day.

FLICKR

May 30, 2009

This past friday, (May 22), I went with some friend to NY and had an absolute blast. I could sit here and write about my awesome weekend, but instead I’ll share with you my new flickr account address. My dad got me an awesome new Nikon D60 for my birthday and they first thing I did (after the rain stopped) was run outside and shoot everything!

So check it out!

Two weeks ago I went to New York to help my cousin Michelle renovate her daughters room. Alexa (my little cousin) has just turned six and this is her official “big girl” room. It was so fun doing this because my cousin is an art director and she is so creative, which is great for me because we have that huge thing in common. This made the project so much fun plus easy. As soon as I got there Michelle just told me what she wanted and we did it. It was awesome. I don’t have any before pictures but here are two  pictures (sorry about the low quality).

Today I have been intransit to ny. I’ve been in transit for almost 6 hours the only good part was the amazing landscapes I saw today while flying over Georgia. Enjoy.

Spring is here

March 20, 2009

For the most part living in Miami is ok. You forget why you hate it during the winter because there are no Mosquitos and the rain (which I love) is minimal. Then spring shows up and this is what we get. While flowers are blooming and snow is melting we’re down here drowning.

Dearest World,

I have a problem, I get about 5 ideas in my head at once and instead of tackling them each one at a time I got nuts and do them all at once. I also have the tendency to buy things with no purpose in hopes that one day I’ll find something to do with them. Well, thats basically what this post is about. Every item I’m writing about today has been sitting in my room staring at me for at least a few weeks.

First up we’ve got Chestnut Necklaces. I bought these Chestnuts possibly two months ago and they have literally been sitting in my room with no purpose. I have no idea why I even bought them but I just had to have them. A few days ago a lightning storm went off in my head and I thought NECKLACES!!!

Second we’ve got candles which I re-melted from old candles and replaced them in these adorable jars. I bought them at Michaels for $1!! I saw them and thought, well these would be cute to put candles in. It only took me about a month to actually make them!

Last but not least I made these gorgeous headbands. I had bought these two “gem” thingies at a church flea market. I saw the gems and thought wow, you know these would look nice on a headband with some feathers. It only took me a month to actually make them!

Poolside Mural!!

March 15, 2009

Hello World!

I haven’t posted in a while and I’m terribly sorry because I know that whoever is reading this (if anyone read this) has been dying for some more of my witt. Just Kidding, I’ve just been so busy! Sorry! So, I babysit for a family on a relatively regular basis, I’m pretty much their go to person when it comes to child watching. Well, they are very aware of my “skillz” when it come to art and they asked me to do a mural for them at their house, outside, next to their pool. I’ve got to say, it’s projects like these that remind me why I love miami. I mean how many people can say that in March they can sit outside in shorts and a t-shirt painting a mural? Not many thats for sure!

So, here it is, the mural I painted. I was inspired by an under the sea book. I basically just copied the style.

Enjoy!

When I work on projects I always find myself with tons of scrap fabric and I never throw them out in hopes that one day I will find something to do with them. Well, this weekend i did it! Here is a taste!

Headbanders Ball!

February 26, 2009

In the past few months I have been working a lot on accessories, specifically headbands. I started noticing that people have been sporting a lot of feather headbands, so I got to thinking and to shopping because, well I wanted one. When I found them in the stores I checked out how they were made, and of course the prices and I really just wasn’t willing to spend $30 on a head band that I could clearly make. So instead I made my own and have been selling them for reasonable prices. Here are some of the ones I came up with.

Enjoy!

Semifreddo heaven

February 11, 2009

This weekend I drove up to Orlando to visit some friends. On Saturday megan and I decided to bake. We had looked up a recipe for lemon poppy mini cupcakes, went to the store and got all of the supplies needed for these delicious little treats. Once we got back from the store Megan and I started preparing the batter, it’s always so much fun baking with Megan mostly because I think we naturally work really well together as a team. Which is pretty rare, for me anyway. Well, when we were about done making our batter Megan asked me to preheat the oven, so I went over to our recipe only to find out that Semifreddo is not baked! It’s frozen!! For about two hours. We both felt so silly! Anyway we put them in the freezer and behold this is what we got.

Probably the most delicious thing we’ve made together.

I personally think it was because of all the love we put into them.
